FlexWorld Fitness to hold inaugural spring festival
It’s that time of year in southern Delaware – temperatures are warming up and dreams of long, fun-filled days on the beach are beginning to inch into the collective consciousness of many Sussex Countians.
Unfortunately, as clothing becomes more scant, the regret of not sticking with those well-meant New Year’s resolutions also becomes more real. But no worries, Flex World Fitness has just the thing to get the exercise regiment kick started again.
On Saturday, April 17, Georgetown’s only full-service exercise facility will present a daylong event geared toward health awareness. Billed as the organization’s inaugural “Spring into Physical Fitness” event, the day promises a little something for everyone.
“Being a part of the medical center, as well as a fitness center, we wanted to hold some type of spring event to help emphasize the important of physical fitness in all our daily lives,” says Heidi Helou, owner of Flex World. “Come out and join us for the day and get tips that will help you enjoy a healthier way of life.”
Portions of the April 17 event will benefit the Georgetown American Legion and many of the area’s war veterans, including Flex World’s first-ever “cycle-a-thon.” This high-energy event features teams of up to four participants, all peddling to benefit area veterans.
“If Mother Nature cooperates, this portion of the spring festival will be held outside under what we hope will be sunny blue skies,” says Helou. “Either way, it’s going to be a fun activity. And it only costs $25 a person, all of which goes toward the programs of the American Legion.”
Other activities for the day include blood pressure screenings, nutritional tips, massages, product tastings, door prizes, dance demonstrations and free tours of the gym. Childcare will be available, so bring the little ones along with you.
Local author James Diehl will also be on site signing copies of “Remembering Sussex County” and the award-winning “World War II Heroes of Southern Delaware.” Twenty percent of sales from “Heroes” will also be donated to the Georgetown American Legion.
“I’m excited to take part in any event that helps support our veteran’s organizations,” says Diehl, who is a member of the gym. “Flex World is a wonderful facility and I’m excited to spend a day there in something other than shorts and a t-shirt.”
